And other news
No Comfy Chairs on Oberon Class Submarines By Jim 'Lucky' Gordon We sat on seat lockers in the sound room, radar room, radio room and in many other spaces in the boat. They were all very much the same; mostly the same height and depth with various lengths designed to fit in a particular space and not interfere with access to important equipment, valves etc. They also held spare gear, maintenance publications, personal gear, etc.. There was little consideration to comfort or ergonomics. Veterans’ Affairs has accepted that spinal problems can be partially attributed to long watches sitting precariously on those seat lockers. There were ExceptionsThere were exceptions to 'locker' seats; however none of them had a back either. They came in the form of a tractor seat, a round seat or the largest of them all, the square seat in the Engine Room.
