Significance
Ojibwa legend says that the migratory patterns of the Anishinabe peoples were controlled by the rise and fall of the great Megis, or sea shell. When the Megis rose from the depths, it reflected the rays of the sun and brought warmth and prosperity. When it descended to the depths it brought hard times that caused the nation to move to a new region. (DND)
